Signals from a River is a project with communities of interest and visual artists Chelsea Canavan and Deirdre Power, it aims to uniquely co-create a set of flags where the relations between various citizens’ and place convey a story to the broader public.

Key to the creation of the flags is a socially engaged practice and the design creation with community members. These flags can then be used in site-specific installations, interventions, performances and further collaborations with other creative institutions and communities in Limerick.

River data, collected through citizen-science will be used alongside mythological and personal stories of the river and Water Paths Archive to develop patterns, iconography and a new visual semaphore. Co-designed through a series of online and face-to-face workshops, the flags are representing the language used between citizens for understanding the impact of collected scientific data.
